Ο Γερουσιαστής από το State Rhode Island κατόρθωσε και πέρασε ψήφισμα στη Γερουσία του Ροντ Ίλαντ για την Κύπρο με ρεκόρ ψήφων αφού από τους 38 Γερουσιαστές του State Rhode Island παρόντες ήσαν 37 και όλοι (37-0)ψήφισαν υπέρ της προτάσεως που κατέθεσαν στη Γερουσία οι Γερουσιαστές Raptakis, Doyle, Paiva, Weed και Algiere Gallo.
Το ψήφισμα πέρασε από τη Γερουσία την Γερουσία χθες Τετάρτη και είναι το πρώτο και μοναδικό μέχρι στιγμής που τάσσετε υπέρ της Κύπρου και εναντίον της διχοτόμησης. Αναλυτικά το ψήφισμα καταδικάζει την Τουρκική εισβολή και ζητούν από τον Πρόεδρο των ΗΠΑ Barack Obama, τον Αντιπρόεδρο Joseph Biden, τον Υπουργό των Εξωτερικών John Kerry, τοn Πρόεδρο της Βουλής John Boehner και την Πρόεδρο της μειοψηφίας Nancy Pelosi, τοn Πρόεδρο της Γερουσίας Harry Reid και τον Πρόεδρο της μειοψηφίας της Γερουσίας Mitch McConnell καθώς και τον Πρόεδρο του ΟΗΕ Ban Ki-moon να λυθεί αμέσως το πρόβλημα της Κύπρου όπου μετά από 40 χρόνια από την Τουρκική εισβολή η Κύπρος παραμένει διχοτομημένη με χιλιάδες πρόσφυγες και καταπατήσεις του Διεθνούς Δικαίου από την Τουρκία.

S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS AND THE UNITED NATIONS WORK TOGETHER TOWARDS FINDING A PEACEFUL SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS IN CYPRUS

1 WHEREAS, This year marks the fortieth anniversary of the illegal Turkish invasion and
2 continued occupation of Cyprus;
and 3 WHEREAS, The Republic of Cyprus has been divided and occupied by foreign forces
4 since 1974, in violation of numerous United Nations' Resolutions; and
5 WHEREAS, The Republic of Cyprus is the only internationally recognized and legal
6 entity on the Island of Cyprus and is a member of the United Nations and the European Union. 7 United States Vice President Joseph Biden re-affirmed these facts and the United States' support
8 for the Republic of Cyprus on his recent visit to the Island of Cyprus; and
9 WHEREAS, The international community, with the support of the United States, has
10 repeatedly supported the Republic of Cyprus in this dispute. It has called for the removal of the
11 43,000 Turkish troops from the Island, the return of all illegal settlers, and has continuously urged
12 the government of Turkey to engage in good faith negotiations to achieve these ends; and 13 WHEREAS, A peaceful, just and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem would greatly
14 benefit the security and the political, economic and social well-being of all Cypriots, as well as
15 contribute to improved relations between Greece, Turkey and the European Union; now, therefore
16 be it
17 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
18 hereby marks the fortieth anniversary of the unlawful Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus.

1 Congress fully support all United Nations efforts to create a peaceful and democratic solution that
2 will be based on European law and will guarantee all Cypriot citizens equal human rights; and be
3 it further
4 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
5 transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to President Barack Obama,
6 Vice President Joseph Biden, Jr., Secretary of State John Kerry, the Rhode Island Delegation to the United States
7 Congress, Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner,
8 House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, United States Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid,
